Steps to keep your kitchen safe

The kitchen is the heart of the home during the holidays, making kitchen and fire safety even more important. ServiceMaster DSI wants you to remember these safety tips.

Stay in the Kitchen

Stay in the kitchen while cooking on the stove top to keep an eye on the food.

Don’t Leave the Turkey

It may be tempting to leave because of the long cook time, but it is necessary to stay in the house while the turkey is cooking. If deep-frying a turkey, there’s a few extra steps you can take to keep things safe:

  1. Stay at least 10 feet away from any structure.

  2. Find flat ground to place the deep fryer on.

  3. Use a thawed and dry turkey

  4. Monitor the oil temperature

Be prepared with a fire extinguisher in case of emergency.

Keep Floor Clear

Keep the floor clear of clutter such as coats or purses. Kids and other family members could trip.

Keep an Eye on Knives

Make sure the knives are visible to all adults and out of reach of all the children.

Smoke Alarms

Test the smoke alarms before the big day. Having a functioning smoke alarm can alert everyone in case of an emergency.
